W​hether you’re applying for a professional license, beginning a new job, volunteering, or completing a background check, fingerprinting is often one of the final steps before approval. Preparing in advance can help make your appointment quick and stress-free.

Bring the Right Identification

Most fingerprinting appointments require a valid government-issued photo ID. Accepted forms of identification typically include:

• Driver’s License
• State ID
• Passport
• Military ID

Some agencies may require additional documentation, so always check your instructions before arriving.

Know Your ORI Number

Many Florida agencies require applicants to provide an ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) number. This number tells the fingerprinting system exactly where to send your results.

If you’re unsure which ORI number you need, contact the agency requesting your fingerprints before your appointment.

Prepare Your Hands

Your fingerprints need to be as clear as possible.

Before your appointment:

• Wash your hands.
• Avoid using heavy lotions immediately beforehand.
• If you work with chemicals or your hands are extremely dry, moisturizing the night before may improve print quality.
