DOEA background screening includes state and national criminal history checks. Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) performs the state criminal history check, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) performs the national criminal history check through electronic Live Scan fingerprinting.

DOEA participates in the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse, which allows eligible screening information to be shared among participating Florida agencies.

Who May Need DOEA Fingerprinting?

DOEA background screening may apply to direct service providers, employees, administrators, coordinators, managers, supervisors, volunteers, and other individuals whose duties involve providing services directly to elderly clients. Specific exemptions and requirements depend on the individual’s role and applicable Florida law.
